Buying a Used Harley-Davidson®

Are you in the market for a used Harley-Davidson® motorcycle? Are you trying to decide where to buy whether it be at a Grand Rapids Harley® dealer, drive to a dealer you heard about or from an individual?

Well, if you are in the Grand Rapids or West Michigan area you do have a choice. You see, when you go to the franchise dealers they will definitely have a fancy store, all the chrome and accessories you could possibly need and high prices. The problem is these dealers want you to buy a new Harley® and they only deal with the used motorcycles because they have to take the trades to sell the new bikes. Because of this, when it comes to the used Harley®'s, they rarely get the attention they deserve for you to have a good experience that you deserve.

Things that Franchise and other dealers neglect when selling a used Harley®.

  • Service and Repairs– Every pre-owned bike needs some attention. Some just need a basic oil changes but others need necessary maintenance such as cam tensioners, brakes, bearings, etc.
  • Tires – Most bikes, even if they are close to the wear indicator, don't get tires installed.
  • Inspection- There are many items that need inspected. There are at least 50 different things that need checked.
  • Detail- Most bikes get a basic wash but don't get a good detail and wax that will not only make the bike look better but better preserve the paint.
  • Guarantee- Their bikes usually have no guarantee and are sold "as-is"
  • Finance programs- The will have finance program but usually the rates will not be as good as they claim on the new bikes.

Other frustrating things that happen when buying from a Franchise Harley® dealer.

Ok, so you see many of the issues when buying at the big franchise stores. Lets not forget, after all this, they will typically be asking for higher prices, or not priced at all, just crazy. The dealers will sell you the used motorcycle but throughout the process they will continuously remind you of why you should buy new because that's how they get all the big incentives from Harley, not because it is what is best for you.

Let me now take a minute to explain what we do at Platinum Powersports and why our Pre-owned motorcycles are better and why you should consider us.

Things that Platinum Powersports does when selling a used Harley®

  • Service and repairs- Every pre-owned motorcycle we sell gets a full service including engine (based on age and miles), primary, Transmission, brakes.
  • Tires- We don't replace tires on every bike but if they get to a point where they have less than a couple thousand miles left on them we'll replace them.
  • Inspection- We go through a 50 point inspection checklist for every bike we sell to be sure they are road worthy and so we don't miss any small things that may not be us to par.
  • Detail- We do a meticulous wash, detail and wax on every bike. We use the best products in the industry such as 3M, S100, Maxima and more to give each bike a showroom shine and some additional protection.
  • Guarantee- Our used motorcycles are guaranteed for 5 days. This may not seem like much but if you get home and just don't think the bike is for you we will exchange it out with a different bike no questions asked.
  • Finance programs- We work with over 30 lenders for the best rates around. There is no reason to think you will have to pay a higher rate just because the motorcycle is pre-owned. We don't settle for high rates from our lenders.
